Step 1: Sketch the Outline
First use a pencil to draw a light outline of the flag on your drawing paper. Note the Indian flag is rectangular, with a length to width ratio of 3:2. Download the image given below for the reference.
Step 2: Colour the Top Stripe Orange
Begin colouring the top stripe with orange oil pastel. Start from the top edge and blend it downwards with gentle strokes. Blend the orange smoothly until you reach the middle white stripe.
Step 3: Colour the Middle Stripe White
Use white oil pastel to fill in the middle stripe. Blend the white colour with the orange, so there is no visible line or edge between the two stripes.
Step 4: Colour the Bottom Stripe Green
Use green oil pastel to fill in the bottom stripe. Start blending the green with the white stripe, so there is no visible line or edge between them. Blend the green colour smoothly till the bottom edge.
Step 5: Draw the Ashoka Chakra
The Ashoka Chakra is at the center of the flag, in the white stripe. Draw a circle in the middle of the white stripe with a pencil. Draw 24 spokes, equally spaced within the circle, using a navy blue sketch pen. Start from the center of the circle and draw the spokes outwards.
Step 6: Fill the Background
Colour the background with Prussian blue, sky blue & white oil pastel. Start from the top edge and blend it smoothly downwards until you reach the bottom edge. Blend the sky with the help of tissue paper or paper stamp for smoother look.
Step 7: Finishing Touches
Use a white oil pastel to highlight the white stripe and the chakra. Add some white color to the center of the Ashoka Chakra, as well as to the spaces between the spokes. Finally, use an eraser to clean up any smudges or unwanted marks.
